The shape was created by Marcel Vogel, a researcher and scientist at IBM who's focus was on energy and frequency and how these properties affected quartz crystals. Ultimatly, he created the Vogel, a precisely shaped quartz that was designed specifically to amplify and harness what he believed was human energy and frequency, to aid in meditation and metaphysical practice.
